Jakarta. Cinemaxx, the Lippo-backed cinema chain, launched Indonesia's first cinema specially designed for children on Monday (14/03). The first Cinemaxx Junior, which caters to children between the ages of 3 and 10 years, opened in the Maxx Box Lippo Village shopping mall in Karawaci, Tangerang, Banten.
"Kids need the freedom to move around, socialize, and interact with the films. Cinemaxx Junior provides a fun and safe kid's environment, where kids can play and have fun, but also be entertained and educated by the films on screen," Cinemaxx chief executive Brian Riady said in a statement on Monday.
Cinemaxx Junior not only offers regular cinemas, but also combines a mini-playground in its cinema theaters.
Kids can enjoy activities on various items such as a play bridge, flying fox, giant trampoline, ball pit, climbing trees, and mini hammocks. They also have the option of entering the cinema on a fun tube slide, Cinemaxx said in the statement.
Toddlers will also have their own area with soft-play elements, to ensure their safety and comfort.
Each session at Cinemaxx Junior will take approximately two-and-a-half hours, as doors will open one hour prior to show times to give the children more time to enjoy the activities in the cinema.
Children can also choose from a variety of seating options, such as beanbags, loungers, cinema seats or sofa beds for two.
Cinemaxx Junior will include features such as a special Junior Meals menu, goodie bags and special Cinemaxx Junior merchandise.
The cinema chain said it would offer three shows daily, with a selection ranging from local to international movies that are suitable for young audiences.
Tickets will cost Rp 100,000 ($7.70) during the promotional period. All children above 3 years of age will need a ticket to enter, and all children under 8 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
The Cinemaxx cinema chain, which currently operates 85 screens in different cities across Indonesia, began its operations in 2014. It plans to operate 2,000 screens within the next 10 years.
The Jakarta Globe and Cinemaxx are both affiliated with Lippo Group.
