Ericsson Introduces New 5G Platforms
Jakarta. Swedish multinational networking and telecommunications company Ericsson unveiled new 5G platforms in their "Barcelona Unboxed" event on Thursday.
These new platforms make possible for service providers to manage growth of 5G and data traffic, simplify operations and secure a pathway for the coming of 5G.
Ericsson's strong portfolio in Indonesia is also strengthened with the launching of various proof of concepts that were previously introduced, such as Spectrum Sharing, that will facilitate a smooth, efficient, and flexible transition into 5G connections.
"We're already working with network providers in EU and the United States, and Australia to rollout 5G connections. We're continuing to expand our portfolio to facilitate our customers, and provide a way to manage data growth, simplify operations and pave the way for 5G," Fredrik Jejdling, Ericsson executive vice president and head of business area networks said in a press release.
The tech company is currently preparing 5G entry to Indonesia in a few key areas, along with all the bells and whistles that comes with the connection, such as radio access, transportation and improved service overall. These additions will make the platform more dynamic and flexible, and help Indonesian service providers to eventually transition into 5G.
Stemming from the company's focus into IoT, the platform provided by Ericsson is currently the most feature-complete for the implementation of Fixed Wireless Access.
"Ericsson was the first company to bring and introduce 2G, 3G, and 4G networks to Indonesia, and we were the first to test 5G connections here in Indonesia. With 18 5G contracts already announced, we've sent 3 million 5G radios to our customers across the globe," added Jerry Soper, head of Ericsson Indonesia.
"For Indonesian operators, they'll get to enjoy a 30 percent increase in revenue from the 5G market potential in 2026, representing a $6 billion in added revenue. We will of course continue our commitment with already established 4G networks and at the same time facilitate a smooth transition into 5G," Jerry said.
Ericsson will be increasing the capacity of their networks and add a MINI-LINK 6200 from their 5G Long Haul solution that will be supporting a capacity of up to 10Gbps. The company will also be expanding its router and fronthaul portfolio to offer felixble and modular options to fit the various needs of network operators.
