JANUARY 22, 2018

Jakarta. Five workers were injured early on Monday (22/01) when a box girder consisting of solid concrete fell during installation at the  construction site of a section of the light rail transit system on Jalan Kayu Putih in Pulo Gadung, East Jakarta.

"There were no fatalities. Two workers are still in hospital. The cause of the incident is still under investigation," Wika Beton, the state-controlled constructor company tasked with the project, said in a statement.

The injured workers are employed by Wika subcontractor VSL Indonesia.

"The incident happened on part of our current project, which includes installation of box girders on the 6-kilometer section of the LRT between Pulo Gadung, East Jakarta and La Piazza in Kelapa Gading," Wika said.

The Rp 4.5 trillion ($315 million) section is scheduled for completion in August.

It will later be integrated with Jakarta's mass rapid transit and another 44-kilometer LRT system connecting Bekasi, West Java, to Cawang, East Jakarta.
