Jakarta. Car sales in Indonesia were up 18 percent in December from a year earlier, data released by the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries, or Gaikindo, showed on Thursday (09/02).

In December, automakers sold 86,573 vehicles, the data showed. There were about 1.1 million cars were sold in total last year.

On a monthly basis, car sales fell by 14 percent from November. Association officials and a spokesman for the Commission for the Supervision of Business Competition (KPPU) told Reuters last month avoid cartel practices.

On Thursday, Gaikindo chairman, Jongkie Sugiarto, said he was in talks with the anti-monopoly agency to resolve the issue. It is not clear whether the association will provide data in future.
