Antigraft Agency Arrests Sukamiskin Prison Head

JULY 21, 2018

Jakarta. The national antigraft agency arrested on bribery charges the head of the Sukamiskin detention center for corruption convicts in Bandung, West Java, on Saturday (21/07).

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) seized money and vehicles, which were reportedly part of an illicit transaction involving the prison head, Wahid Husen.

"The rupiah and foreign currency is currently being calculated and the vehicles have been secured as initial evidence," KPK deputy chairman Laode Syarif said, as quoted by BBC Indonesia.

KPK investigators came to the prison with Bandung Police officers at midnight and left with Wahid, his aide Hendri and two inmates — Fahmi Darmawangsa and Andri.

Fahmi was sentenced to two years and eight months of prison in 2017, in a corruption case related to a monitoring satellite of the Marine Security Agency (Bakamla).

Fahmi's wife, actress Inneke Koesherawati has also been detained by KPK.

Sukamiskin prison has been reportedly giving preferential treatment to some of its prisoners. Last year, Tempo magazine revealed that while serving their sentences, convicts could leave its premises without police escort.
