Jakarta. Democratic Party executive Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, better known as AHY, met President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo at Bogor Palace on Wednesday to congratulate him on his re-election.
The Democratic Party was in the coalition of parties supporting the Prabowo Subianto-Sandiaga Uno ticket in last month's presidential election.
This is the second time AHY met Jokowi this month. Their last meeting took place on May 2.
"I answered the president's invitation to meet at the Bogor Palace. This is a follow-up to our previous meeting at the Merdeka Palace on May 2," AHY said.
In the meeting, AHY congratulated the incumbent president for winning the 2019 presidential election, which the General Elections Commission (KPU) announced in the early hours of Tuesday.
He also said both of them will continue to share their views and ideas to build a better future for Indonesia.
"We must contribute [our] thoughts, ideas and desires to create a better Indonesia in the future. We have to exchange ideas and give good, positive feedback," the Democratic Party's task force commander added.
He said Jokowi wants AHY to bridge communication between him and his father, former president and Democratic Party founder Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, or SBY.
"My father now spends most of his time in Singapore with my mother Ani, who is undergoing treatment for blood cancer," he said. AHY is SBY's eldest son.
He also urged people to remain calm and wait for the General Elections Commission (KPU) to decide on the election dispute.
"In elections, there are always differences of opinion, perceptions, etc. The best thing to do is wait for the KPU to decide," he said.
SBY 'Fully Supports' Jokowi
Separately, SBY has uploaded a video of his statement regarding the announcement of the election results on Tuesday. He congratulated Jokowi and his running mate Ma'ruf Amin for their win, and conveyed his "full support" for them.
"In my capacity as the sixth president of Indonesia, I welcome and fully support the commitment and noble determination of both of you to lead and protect the people of Indonesia fairly, without exception. I hope God will bless you both," SBY said.
He also addressed a message to Prabowo Subianto, the candidate that his party supported throughout the election, saying that he is "grateful and relieved" that Prabowo is taking his election dispute to the Constitutional Court.
"Mr. Prabowo, whatever the outcome of your lawsuit to the Constitutional Court is later, history will record it. You are a constitutionalist, and a person who respects the legal system as well as a champion of democracy, a legacy that will be remembered beautifully by future generations," he said.
SBY also said that he accepts the results of the legislative election. His party only received 7 percent of the vote.
"Regarding the results of the legislative election, although our seats in the parliament have been reduced, in principle, we accept the results of the 2019 legislative election," he said.
SBY said the Democratic Party will accept the results even if some legislative candidates of his party are dissatisfied with them.
"Even if the Democratic Party has to accommodate the requests from our [legislative candidates] to file objections [to the Constitutional Court], it will not stop us from accepting the results now," he said.
