More Politicians Grilled as KPK Digs Deeper Into e-KTP Graft

Jakarta. Antigraft investigators questioned several politicians on Tuesday (09/01) as witnesses in a high-profile corruption case related to a government project involving electronic national identity cards known as e-KTP.
The politicians include North Sulawesi Governor Olly Dondokambey of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), United Development Party (PPP) politician Nu'man Abdul Hakim and Democratic Party politician Jafar Hafsah.
All were members of the House of Representatives when the Rp 5.9 trillion ($439 million) project was deliberated by lawmakers in 2011.
The case resulted in Rp 2.3 trillion state losses, and former House speaker and Golkar Party chairman, Setya Novanto, is currently on trial for his involvement in it.
Prosecutors from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) have charged Setya with embezzling $7.3 million.
Tuesday's questioning was aimed at looking deeper into the flow of funds to other lawmakers and the House deliberations regarding the project, KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah said.
Olly, who was then serving as deputy chairman of the budget committee at the House, said there had been no irregularities in the budgeting process.
"There were no problems. It was the government's program ... the House only approved it," he told reporters.
Olly, Nu'man and Jafar testified against Anang Sugiana Sudihardjo, one of two businessmen who have been named suspects in the case, in which former Home Ministry officials Irman and Sugiharto have already been convicted.
Olly, Nu'man and Jafar are accused of receiving bribes of $1.2 million, $37,000 and $100,000 respectively.
Nu'man, who was a member of a House commission that worked the project, denied the accusations after Tuesday's hearing.
