Jakarta. There is no need to form a new agency to tackle cyber-crimes, President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo said during a cabinet meeting on Tuesday (20/09).

The government still needs to decide whether the proposed National Cyber Agency (BCN) will be established, despite the communications and information technology minister's promises to launch it by July this year.

"There is no need to form a new agency to mitigate cyber-security issues. We can utilize, develop and consolidate the existing cyber-security units in the ministries and other institutions," Jokowi said.

The president also recognized the need to deal with the increase in the number of cyber-crimes.

"Ministerial agencies should adapt to the new dynamics and challenges. In 2013, Indonesia was the second largest victim of global cyber-crime," Jokowi claimed. The establishment of the BCN has been proposed since the end of 2014.
