Jakarta. Asia's largest global sports media property, ONE Championship, recently announced a strategic partnership with Telkomsel, Indonesia's largest mobile network provider, to collaborate on various projects to deliver the most exciting and unique brand of authentic martial arts to millions of fans across Asia.
The move is also strategic as part of Telkomsel's efforts to expand quality digital video content offered to more than 192 million customers through its MAXstream smartphone application, beginning with "ONE: Conquest of Heroes," which took place in the Jakarta Convention Center in Senayan on Saturday (22/09).
ONE Championship chief financial officer Teh Hua Fung said he seeks to utilize both organizations' expansive user base to promote authentic martial arts in Asia, especially in Indonesia.
"This partnership with Telkomsel is yet another development towards making martial arts accessible to more than 4 billion people in Asia, especially in Indonesia, where we have held live events since the beginning of the promotion," Fung told the press.
Telkomsel marketing director Alistair Johnston said the collaboration would add new digital entertainment options in a country with a long history in martial arts, such as pencak silat, which is indigenous to Indonesia.
This partnership will also leverage both organizations' capabilities and influence to promote martial arts-related content, digital assets and services, as well as events and telecommunications services to all Telkomsel subscribers.
"As an addition to our digital video partners, Telkomsel expects to bring a better quality mobile digital lifestyle experience to its customers," Johnston said.
The partnership has seen the creation of a dedicated ONE Championship channel on Telkomsel's online streaming platform MAXstream, which allows subscribers to VideoMAX packages to watch live events, according to Crispin Tristram, Telkomsel's head of digital lifestyle.
"Sports content is a big winner with our customers, with millennials comprising a large part of our customer base. Riding off the success with the World Cup and Asian Games, MAXstream users will be able to watch livestreams of ONE Championship events," Tristram said.
MAXstream subscribers were able to watch ONE Championship's live events, including "ONE: Conquest of Heroes." The main event featured ONE strawweight world champion Yoshitaka "Nobita" Naito of Japan, who lost his title to challenger, Joshua "The Passion" Pacio of the Philippines.
It also showcased hometown heroes, such as Stefer "The Lion" Rahardian, Priscilla Hertati Lumban Gaol, Victorio Senduk, Sunoto and Egi Rozten.
