Operations at Soekarno-Hatta Airport Unaffected by Major Blackout That Hit Jakarta and West Java
Jakarta. Operations at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport were not disrupted by the massive power outage that hit Jakarta and several cities in West Java, an executive said on Sunday.
Febri Toga Simatupang, senior manager of branch communications and legal affairs, said Indonesia's busiest airport in Tangerang, Banten, is supported by four power grids belonging to state utility company Perusahaan Listrik Negara.
The airport is operated run by state-owned Angkasa Pura II.
"The disruption by PLN impacted us, but it was immediately backed up by 17 emergency generators, so Soekarno-Hatta International Airport's power needs were met," Febri said in a statement.
He added that the airport management had implemented contingency measures to ensure that all computers responsible for managing flight operations, terminal areas and other crucial systems are safe and function well.
Jakarta and at least 15 cities in West Java were hit by a major blackout after power plants operated by PLN encountered problems.
The blackout caused distress in the capital, where some trains of the city's mass rapid transit system came to a standstill underground. Traffic congestion also occurred due to nonfunctional traffic lights, while several gas stations stopped operating.
