Jakarta. Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama's public approval rating in the capital has reached a more-than-healthy 68.72 percent, but strangely his electability rating remains low at only 40.77 percent, based on a Poltracking Indonesia survey.
"There's a big gap between Ahok's high approval rating and his electability rating. Ahok should improve his political communication, he should learn from Jokowi [President Joko Widodo]," Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) politician Maruarar Sirait said on Friday (16/09).
"Ahok needs to be more polite when communicating with the public. More people will vote for him if he's more polite," Maruarar said.
"Some people still choose their leaders emotionally. But good performance still counts for more, which is why Ahok has high approval rating," the politician said.
The Poltracking survey was conducted on Sept. 6-9, using a multi-stage random sampling method involving 400 respondents. It had a margin of error 4.95 percent and a trust level of 95 percent.
