SAP Helps Operations Run Smoothly at Jakarta MRT
Jakarta. German software firm SAP is marking a major milestone in its more than 20 years of operations in Indonesia, having acquired Jakarta MRT, operator of the capital's brand-new mass rapid transit system, as one of its latest and arguably most trending clients.
The company's local unit, SAP Indonesia, has been with Jakarta MRT since the start, handling the train operator's governance and financial management.
"We started this innovation with SAP technology as part of our efforts to become a 'smart' company, which provides the best service, along with our plans to build more stations, and also our efforts to improve the quality of life for public transportation users in Jakarta," William Sabandar, president director of the train operator, said on the sidelines of Asian Innovators Summit 2019 in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Jakarta MRT started commercial operations a little more than a week ago, after months of a testing, which it completed without any glitches.
William said the SAP system allows him to access real-time, detailed operational information on his mobile phone about each activity at the various stations. He said they plan to expand SAP technology to the operator's customer service system.
"The principle is public engagement with the MRT through a mobile app; it gives people the opportunity to provide comment and criticism," William said.
He added that Jakarta MRT is looking forward to continue using SAP on the 8.1-kilometer second phase of the transit system's development, which will add eight stations, from the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle in Central Jakarta, to Kota Tua in West Jakarta.
The company also plans to start work on the third phase, the East-West Corridor between Kalideres in West Jakarta and Ujung Menteng in East Jakarta, next year.
Asian Innovators Summit
SAP Indonesia managing director, Andreas Diantoro, said his firm is looking forward to helping local companies provide memorable experiences to their customers.
"I feel proud to have been working with our customers, such as Jakarta MRT, Danamon Bank and Bhanda Ghara Reksa, which are also working together to achieve this goal," Andreas said.
This year's Innovators Summit provides a forum for local innovators to share their experiences in using technology to compete in the digital economy. The event in Jakarta is part of a series, themed #OurGrowthStory, which are also held in Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines this month.
