Jakarta. Siloam International Hospitals, a subsidiary of property developer Lippo Karawaci, announced on Thursday (06/09) that it has opened a new hospital in Semarang, Central Java.

Siloam Hospitals Semarang is the group's first in the Central Java provincial capital and its 34th in the country.

The three-story medical facility, built at a cost of Rp 150 billion ($10 million), has a 24-hour emergency room, an operating room and general wards, and it offers medical checkups and pediatric and maternity services. The hospital has a pain management center that offers treatment for various medical conditions, such as headaches and spinal, muscle, knee and other types of chronic pain.

The hospital is further equipped with high-tech features such as computed tomography scanner, X-ray generator and a 3-D ultrasound system, while it also features digital telemedicine, which enables doctors and patients to communicate directly with other doctors and specialists in the Siloam Group's hospital network.

"We are proud to be part of the efforts to provide health care services to the people of Semarang," Lippo Group chief executive James Riady said during the hospital's inauguration on Wednesday.

He added that Siloam strives to offer excellent health care services to the broader public at affordable prices.

James said the company will open four or five more hospitals across the archipelago by the end of this year, including another branch in Semarang.

The company is currently also expanding abroad, having already opened 106 clinics in Singapore, four hospitals in Myanmar and another two in China.

Semarang Mayor Hendrar Prihadi, Lippo Group president commissioner Theo Sambuaga, Lippo Group commissioner Sutiyoso and Kukrit Suryo Wicaksono, chairman of the Central Java chapter of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), also attended the inauguration.

"Our hope is that Siloam can make a significant contribution in improving the quality and access to health care services for the residents of Central Java, especially in Semarang," Hendrar said in a statement.

"The investment climate is improving with the presence of a big name such as Siloam in Semarang. Hopefully, Siloam's presence will help improve the welfare of Semarang's residents," Kukrit said.

The Jakarta Globe and Siloam International Hospitals are both affiliated with the Lippo Group.
