Telkom Makes Progress on Restoration of Services in Quake-Hit Palu and Donggala

Jakarta. State-owned telecommunications company Telkom Indonesia said it is making progress in restoring its services Palu and Donggala in Central Sulawesi, which were hit by a magnitude-7.4 earthquake, followed by a tsunami last week.
"Our phone and text message services are currently being restored in few key areas in Palu that are prioritized for government officials and other parties that need a 4G connection," Arif Prabowo, vice president of corporate communications at Telkom, said on Saturday (29/09).
"The connection in areas such as Toli-Toli, Poso and Luwuk has been restored," he added.
Phone and data services are back on line in Donggala, but Indihome subscribers will have to wait because fiber optic network has yet to be repaired.
"Telkom is providing free access to Wi-Fi in the area around its offices in Donggala for anyone that needs to access the internet," Arif said.
Telkom is also repurposing a satellite operated by one of its subsidiaries, moving its coverage from Makassar to Palu.
The company said it is doing the best it can under the circumstances to restore communications in the area to facilitate the government and volunteers involved in emergency relief efforts.
