World's Number One Badminton Pair Repeats Victory at India Open
Jakarta. The world's top men's doubles pair Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo defended their title in the 2017 India Open Super Series on Sunday (02/04) after defeating fellow Indonesian pair Angga Pratama and Ricky Karanda Suwardi in two matches.
The final match, which resulted in 21-11, 21-15 victories for Marcus and Kevin, seemed a repetition of the India Open 2016 finals, which resulted in 21-17, 21-13 wins for the Indonesian pair.
Marcus and Kevin have asserted their dominance against fellow countrymen Angga and Ricky in previous four wins in official tournaments.
Marcus and Kevin, who won the All England just three weeks ago, said every game is a new experience.
"We always enjoy every match, that's the key," Kevin told the Indonesian Badminton Federation (PBSI) after their victory.
"We didn't expect to win this tournament because all of our opponents were tough, but yes, fortunately, we were able to enjoy our games," Marcus added.
Marcus and Kevin are known for their exceptional pace and responsive defense against adversarial attacks.
"They are very quick and always manage to conquer the net with flat smashes. They also have exceptional defense," PBSI men's doubles assistant coach Aryono Miranat said of Marcus and Kevin.
With the recent win, Indonesia further displayed its strength in the men's doubles category, with Marcus and Kevin's win as the only title the country claimed from the recent tournament in India.
