Chinese Tech Firm LeEco Opens Silicon Valley HQ, Plans Indonesian Expansion
Jakarta. Chinese technology firm LeEco has officially opened its United States headquarters in San Jose, California, last week as part of its global expansion strategy, a top executive said in a statement.
"Silicon Valley is critically important to our global growth strategy," LeEco chairman and chief executive Yueting Jia said. "Silicon Valley is known for its unique talent and culture of innovation and inspiration, which aligns perfectly with LeEco's mission to bring extraordinary experiences to people everywhere."
According to the statement, the US headquarters will serve as LeEco's research center for autonomous driving and it will be known as the LeFuture AI Institute. The 7,000-meter square facility can accommodate up to 800 employees.
LeEco recently made the headline after it partnered with Aston Martin to produce the British luxury carmaker's first electric vehicle. The car will enter the market in 2018.
The tech company, which is known as the "Netflix of China," also sells sound equipment, such as headphones and speakers, in the United States through its e-commerce site.
LeEco's products have yet to become available in Indonesia but an executive at the Chinese company said the archipelago was already on its radar.
"LeEco plans to enter into the Indonesian market and hopes to bring the globally successful ecosystem business model to the country," LeEco public relations manager Edith Chen told the Jakarta Globe on Tuesday (03/05). "However, at this stage, a specific plan and timeline are not available."
