Internet TV Service Provider IFlix Seals Strategic Partnership With Indosat
Jakarta. Internet television service provider iFlix has formed a partnership with Indonesia's third-largest mobile phone operator Indosat Ooredoo to deliver unlimited access to thousands of TV shows, movies and other programming from its library to selected Indosat customers, the Kuala Lumpur-headquartered company said in a statement on Wednesday (27/04).
"Under the collaboration, selected Indosat Ooredoo premium mobile and fiber broadband [GIG] customers will receive iFlix services, seamlessly bundled with their existing subscriptions, sponsored by Indosat Ooredoo," the statement said.
iFlix is a video-on-demand startup that was established by Catcha Group head honcho Patrick Grove. The service was launched on May 26 last year after it secured an initial capital investment of $30 million.
The strategic partnership with Indosat is part of iFlix's move to tap into Southeast Asia's largest economy, with a population of 250 million and a fast-growing Internet user base.
iFlix competes with US-based rival Netflix, which is also an Internet TV service provider, already active in Indonesia.
"To activate iFlix, eligible subscribers simply register at iflix.com or download the iFlix app and they will immediately be able to enjoy unlimited movies or shows on the go on the device of their choice – be it a TV, phone, laptop, desktop or tablet," iFlix said in the statement. "In addition, Indosat Ooredoo customers will also be able to download their favorite shows to their mobile phones or tablets to enjoy even when they aren't connected to the Internet."
Also on Wednesday, iFlix announced that it has welcomed telco and media expert David Goldstein as its new Asia chief.
Goldstein was moved from his former advisory role to lead iFlix's Asian businesses.
He is expected to bring over 20 years' experience in the media, pay-TV, telecommunications and information technology industries to the business.
Goldstein has held senior executive positions with media and telecommunication operators as well as IT solutions providers all over the world, including Emtek Group (Indonesia), SCTV (Indonesia), Nexmedia (Indonesia), Telstra (Australia), Swisscom (Switzerland), DiGi (Malaysia), and Khazanah Nasional (Malaysia).
Goldstein also previously served as special advisor to the chief executive of Malaysia-based telecommunications group Axiata.
