MRA Replaces Soetikno Soedarjo Amid Bribery Scandal
Jakarta. Mugi Rekso Abadi or MRA, a holding company for a number of media, lifestyle and entertainment firms, appointed Maulana Indraguna Sutowo as its new chief executive to replace Soetikno Soedarjo on Friday (27/01).
Maulana stepped ahead after Soetikno, also the company's founder, was named as a suspect in a graft case by the Corruption Eradication Commission, or KPK, for allegedly bribing former Garuda Indonesia chief executive Emirsyah Satar during a series of aircraft purchases between 2005 and 2014.
Maulana was a member of MRA's board of directors.
"We want to make sure that MRA runs as usual. We appreciate our stakeholders' support in this matter," Maulana said in a statement.
"The situation has no bearing on MRA and all its operations," he said. "But we honor and support the ongoing legal process and we are ready to help when needed."
Soetikno, who is also the beneficial owner of consultant company Connaught International, was named as a suspect by the antigraft agency after British engineering company Rolls-Royce apologized in a hearing at a London court for having paid bribes to middlemen to secure contracts in China, India, Indonesia, Nigeria, Russia and Thailand.
Soetikno is the alleged middleman who connected the flag carrier's boss to Rolls-Royce.
