XL Axiata Aims for 10m 4G Customers by End-2016
Jakarta. Indonesian mobile operator XL Axiata plans to have eight million to 10 million subscribers using its 4G LTE data service by the end of 2016.
The carrier, the country’s second-biggest with 46 million subscribers, has 1.2 million 4G LTE users to date, according to Roy Wisnu Wibowo.
The company expects to increase that number to 10 percent of its entire subscriber base by the end of this year, with the increasing availability of low-cost 4G devices expected to help boost enrollment, Roy said on Monday.
“Perhaps there are still many subscribers using the old SIM cards. Therefore we encourage our customers to use 4G-capable devices and also to upgrade their SIM cards to a 4G,” he said.
XL has rolled out various programs to get subscribers to move to the faster mobile broadband service, including the 4G Tank promo that offers bonus data for prepaid customers, and the Xtreme Video 360-degree competition where subscribers can experience high-definition videos streamed over a 4G connection.
