Dangdut King Backs Anti-Graft Leaders, Denounces Revisions to KPK Law
Jakarta. Rhoma Irama, musician-turned-chairman of the Idaman Party, has officially voiced his support for leaders of the Corruption Eradication Commission, or KPK, against the House of Representatives' intention to revise Indonesia's KPK Law.
Rhoma announced his stance after a short meeting at KPK headquarters in Kuningan, South Jakarta, on Thursday (03/03). The King of Dangdut said the government and the House would be going "too far" if they go through with the revisions, which many see as yet another effort to weaken the much-respected anti-graft agency.
"We [Idaman Party] support the KPK in rejecting any revisions of the KPK Law. The [current] law is strong enough and needs no revisions,"Rhoma added.
With his usual flair for showmanship, Rhoma also sang his support for the anti-graft body with a song titled “Indonesia."
He added that he hopes the KPK will continue to maintain its professionalism in the mission to eradicate corruption.
