KPK to Question Ignasius Jonan as Witness in Transport Ministry Bribery Case
Jakarta. The national antigraft agency plans to question Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Ignasius Jonan as a witness in a bribery case involving the Ministry of Transportation.
"The person of concern [Ignatius] will be questioned as a witness in the case against suspect A.T.B. [Antonius Tonny Budiono]," Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) spokesman Febri Diansyah said on Monday (04/12), as quoted by Suara Pembaruan.
Ignasius appointed Antonius as director general for sea transportation in May 2016, during his tenure as minister of transportation.
Antonius was arrested in a sting operation in August with a suitcase in his possession allegedly containing Rp 18.9 billion ($1.4 million) in cash. He reportedly also had a debit card with a balance of Rp 1.2 billion.
Antigraft investigators believe he received the money as a bribe from Adiputra Kurniawan, a commissioner at property developer Adhiguna Keruktama, which won several tenders in the Tanjung Mas Port reclamation project in Semarang, Central Java.
The company also won a tender worth approximately Rp 44.52 billion this year for the dredging of shipping lanes at the port.
Antonius and Adiputra are both suspect in the case.
Febri said the KPK will also question Santi Puruhita, corporate secretary of state-controlled port operator Pelabuhan Indonesia II, and Suniono, president director of private construction firm Multi Prima.
