Jakarta. Lawmaker Aziz Syamsuddin was appointed chairman of Indonesia Cricket Association, or PCI, at the national congress on Sunday.
Azis, a Golkar Party politician and chairman of House of Representatives Commission III — which supervises legal affairs, laws, human rights and security — was the only candidate chosen unanimously by 13 provincial officials who attended the congress, PCI said in a statement via email.
In his speech as new chairman, the legislator conveyed his optimism in leading PCI for the next five years.
Some of his key points were to build a new cricket facility in Senayan, strengthen the association's existence and prepare for the Asian Games. Indonesia will host the Asia Games in 2018.
He said that his involvement in the cricket association is part of his dedication to the nation and he will try his best to reach international achievement.
