Foundation Host Charity Event to Support Children with Pediatric Cancer
Jakarta. Yayasan Sentuhan Kasih Anak Indonesia, or a Touch of Love Foundation for Indonesian Children, is hosting an exhibition and charity event this week to commemorate National Children's Day.
The exhibition and auction showcasing photographs of Indonesia children titled "Wajah Ceria Anak Indonesia," the premium design collection SVANA by IKAT Indonesia by Didiet Maulana and fine jewelry from Wanda House of Jewels, opened on Tuesday (26/07). The auction will take place during the grand closing night on Thursday.
“[Through this charity] we invite people to focus their attention on pediatric cancer. The aim is to get more people to understand and care for the kids who are diagnosed with cancer,” founder Sallyana Sorongan said in a press conference on Tuesday.
The photographs, curated by Indonesian photographer Rudy Chayadi, are on sale with a bottom price of Rp 500,000 ($38) with one special artwork up for auction. Didiet Maulana will showcase up to 15 kebaya designs, while Wanda House of Jewels will show pendants made of white gold and diamond.
Indonesian singer Marcell Siahaan, renowned harpist Rama Widi and a fashion show featuring Putri Indonesia alumna Whulandary Herman, Artika Sari Devi, Alya Rohali, Zivanna Letisha and outfits from Didiet Maulana will be shown on the final night.
“I hope the fight [to battle cancer] will keep on going. I feel upgraded as a human being by contributing to event like this,” Marcell said.
Hematologist-oncologist Haridini Intan said the cases of pediatric cancer increases each year, with up to three children diagnosed with cancer from every 150 patients. Most hospitals that are equipped to care for childhood cancers are still concentrated in Java.
Invitations to the grand night on Thursday sell for Rp 750,000 per person. All profits generated from the charity will be donated and distributed to YSKAI for medication, treatment and education of children suffering cancer.
The Jakarta-based foundation, focusing on children diagnosed with pediatric cancer, is working in partnership with teams of doctors from a number of hospitals across Jakarta to supply the families of childhood cancer suffers with information and advice. Up to 2010, the team had helped 125 children receive the necessary treatment.
