German Cyclist Wins Third Stage of Tour de Singkarak
Jakarta. German road cyclist Robert Muller won the third stage of the 2017 Tour de Singkarak, which passed through famous tourist spot Muaro Sijunjung and finished at the Dharmasraya sports arena in West Sumatera on Monday (20/11).
The second stage of the tour was won by British racer Daniel Whitehouse, who rode for the CCN Cycling Team.
The third stage was the longest race in the tour, covering a distance of 161.3 kilometers. Muller finished it in just over four hours.
"This is my second win in Tour de Singkarak. The track is not easy, especially since the weather is quite hot. But this was a great race," Muller said.
Despite the hot weather, residents lined up on both sides of the road near Dharmasraya to cheer on the cyclists.
The local administration had prepared a series of performances to welcome them, from traditional dances — including reog, to musical performances.
Cyclists from a total of 29 countries are taking part in the tour.
"We hope the central government can help us revitalize our Nagari Sijunjung traditional village. It's already in the national heritage list, but we hope Unesco will soon also adopt it in its world cultural heritage list. We also want to turn it into a world-class tourist destination," said Sijunjung's deputy district head Arrival Boy when he saw off the racers on the start line on Monday.
