Jakarta. Several bridges in Jakarta have become popular with visitors, especially millennials, who flock there in search of the perfect picture to upload to photo-sharing social networking service Instagram.
Such places are therefore known as "Instagramable." One such visitor is Foni, who came all the way from Makassar, South Sulawesi, to take a photo on the pedestrian bridge near the Gelora Bung Karno Sports Complex in Senayan.
"I saw many of my friends taking pictures here, so while I'm in Jakarta, I must to take a photo here," Foni told Antara news agency on Tuesday.
Another bridge visitor, Vanessa, said these newly renovated bridges are visually interesting and that she does not want to miss the opportunity to upload photos of Gelora Bung Karno Bridge.
"There are many colorful lights; they are adorable, so there's no need to pay to get Instagramable photos, it's free here," Vanessa said.
Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan announced the capital's 492nd anniversary with the theme "New Face Jakarta." That is supported by the Jakarta Tourism and Culture Agency, and spokeswoman Warsi Ningsih confirmed that the provincial government would continue to build and beautify the city.
"If our city is beautiful and safe, automatically tourists will come to Jakarta, so our economy will automatically also receive a boost," Warsi said on Tuesday.

Gelora Bung Karno Bridge
This bridge incorporates white rectangles arranged in a spiral configuration. The bridge is illuminated with colorful lights at night, which provides passersby with an artistic impression.
The bridge's lights are occasionally used to create certain colors or symbols, such as the colors of the New Zealand flag, to express solidarity after the recent Christchurch mosque shootings.
Senayan Roundabout Bridge
This bridge has a flat wooden base and transparent roof, which allows pedestrians to enjoy views of the Jakarta skyscape. The bridge serves to connect the TransJakarta busway station with the nearby Jakarta MRT station.
Jakarta Police Bridge
This bridge was given an artistic makeover with the addition of metal rings covering the top, in the shape of honeycomb. It is also equipped with red, green and blue spotlights.
