The Light Goes Out Early at Morrissey Jakarta Show
Jakarta. Morrissey, the former frontman of legendary British band the Smiths turned solo artist, wowed fans at the Senayan Golf Driving Range in Jakarta on Wednesday (12/10), before leaving the crowd of hundreds disappointed by a lack of encore.
The musical legend mainly used the concert to share various social messages through his songs and videos. Cigarettes and animal products were banned from the venue, in line with the singer's personal beliefs.
Morrissey appeared on stage at 8.00 p.m., opening with hit "Suedehead" followed up by "Alma Matters" before praising the enthusiastic audience in singing along.
He performed several other songs from his 2014 album "World Peace Is None of Your Business," featuring a video backdrop of US police violence, before reaching a crescendo with highly political "Ganglord."
The crowd went wild when the intros of his popular songs were played, including "Let Me Kiss You," "You’re the One For Me, Fatty" and "Kiss Me a Lot."
Famous for his strong vegan and animal activist convictions, the night took a grim turn with hit song "Meat Is Murder," which included a harrowing video of animal cruelty.
Despite the applause from concertgoers, the abrupt finish to the show did not warrant an encore from the notoriously-moody singer, who left fans disappointed.
