Ten Indonesian Films in Competition at Asean Film Festival 2017

MARCH 09, 2017

Jakarta. Ten Indonesian films will compete in the Asean Film Festival and Awards 2017, or AIFFA, in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia on May 4-6.

"Salawaku," "Ziarah" (Pilgrimage), "Turah," "Surat Dari Praha" (Letters from Prague), "Athirah" (Mother), "Ada Apa Dengan Cinta? 2" (What’s Up With Love? 2), "Jingga" (Orange), "Sunya," "Istirahatlah Kata-Kata" (Solo, Solitude) and "Super Didi" will compete for the AIFFA trophies to be announced at its gala night on May 6.

AIFFA director Livan Tajang said more Indonesian films might join the list since the AIFFA committee has extended the deadline for submission to March 15.

Livan said AIFFA 2017 will bring together filmmakers, investors, producers and distributors from South East Asian countries to talk about their latest projects and collaborate.

"We want to provide a space for Asean filmmakers to promote their work to the world," she said.

Critic Hikmat Darmawan said local filmmakers should be encouraged to submit their work to AIFFA.

"It's an opportunity for Indonesian filmmakers to show their skills and compete with other international filmmakers," he said.

The AIFFA 2017 competition will be divided into 16 categories, including a lifetime achievement award.
