Tremors and Volcanic Ash Shake Up Bali as Mount Agung Erupts Again
Jakarta. Mount Agung in Bali erupted again on Tuesday (21/11), spewing volcanic ash as high as 700 meters into the sky, an official from the National Disaster Mitigation agency, or BNPB, said.
Authorities urged people living on the slopes of the mountain to remain calm after several tremors shook the area. Currently, no one is allowed within six to 7.5 kilometers from the crater, the BNPB said in a statement.
"As of tonight, a total of 29,245 people have had to leave their homes and they are now being housed in 278 shelters," BNPB spokesman Sutopo Nugroho said.
Indonesia’s Volcano Observatory Notice for Aviation (VONA) raised its air traffic warning level from yellow to orange on Tuesday. It said the volcanic ash was moving to the east and southeast of the mountain.
No flights in and out of Bali had been canceled because of the eruption.
