Bahlil Lahadalia Becomes Hipmi’s Latest Chairman
Jakarta. The Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (Hipmi) appointed Bahlil Lahadalia, a young entrepreneur from Indonesia’s eastern area to lead the association for 2015-2018 period, said in a statement by Hipmi on Thursday.
Bahlil controls Rifa Capital business group. A group responsible for businesses in the shipping, nickel mining and gold mining sectors.
Bahlil beat his toughest competitor Bayu Priawan Djokosoetono, grandson of the founder of taxi operator Blue Bird Mutiara Djokosoetono for the position.
Winning 85 votes, in the second round of voting, the ballot encompassed all Hipmi representative members, Bahlil beat Bayu — who secured only 79 votes.
Bahlil, a native Papuan in Indonesia’s most eastern region, said he had pledged that Hipmi would make a meaningful contribution to Indonesia’s economy.
“We must help shoulder-to-shoulder as young entrepreneurs face the ASEAN Economic Community.”
“We, as young entrepreneur must be able to compete in the global stage,” he said.
The last businessman from eastern Indonesia to chair Hipmi was Erwin Aksa from 2009-2011. Erwin is chief executive of the Makassar-based Bosowa Group, with interests in the automotive, cement, energy, property, logistics, infrastructure and finance sectors.
