Brit Fashion Awards to Honor Gucci's Alessandro Michele
Jakarta. Among a host of awards that recognize the best talents in fashion globally, the annual British Fashion Awards ceremony is one of the most sought-after.
Organized by the British Fashion Council, the event not only celebrates the breadth of talent within the British fashion industry, but also honors creative forces based outside of the United Kingdom through its International Designer of the Year award.
At the ceremony scheduled for Nov. 23, the council will grant the special accolade to Alessandro Michele, the creative director of Gucci.
The Italian designer, who was appointed to helm the Milan-based label in January, shot to instant fame after his four collections caught the attention of the fashion world with their whimsical designs and covetable accessories.
Recruited by Gucci's legendary former creative director Tom Ford himself, Michele has been working at Gucci for 13 years.
"Alessandro Michele is a phenomenon at Gucci. His exciting, eclectic aesthetic has made an overnight impact on global fashion trends," said Natalie Massenet, chairman of the British Fashion Council, as quoted by Women's Wear Daily.
"It is not just that he has made the brand covetable and the product so desirable. He has also reinvigorated the retail experience, bringing back playfulness and magic to the flagship store. This is a man who has his customers in his heart and celebrates them," Massenet added.
Previous winners of the International Designer of the Year Award included Nicolas Ghesquière of Louis Vuitton and Miuccia Prada.
