Jakarta. The Indonesian Asian Para Games Organizing Committee, Inapgoc for short, unveiled the Asian Para Games 2018 medals on Friday (05/10).

The specially-made Para Games medals come with small beads implanted inside them that can make a rattling sound when shaken.

The medals also have the words "The Inspiring Spirit and Energy of Asia" embossed in Braille on its front and the braille logo of the Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) on the back.

Inapgoc sport director Fanny Riawan told that the medals were manufactured in Guangzhou, China, and took four months to make.

Fanny said the gold medals – with 26 beads inside them –produce the loudest noise. The silver medals have 20 beads and the bronze medals 16 beads.

The difference in the sounds they produce will help visually impaired athletes identify their medals.

Fanny said the Inapgoc design team took their inspirations from the medals made for the Rio 2016 Paralympics.

"Tarek Souei [Chief Executive of the Asian Paralympic Committee] suggested we make similar type of medals," he said.

Every medal winner at the Asian Para Games 2018 will also receive a replica of the Games' mascot, the Indonesian Bondol eagle Momo.
