Bandung Hosts Indonesia-Middle East Annual Gathering on Economy
Jakarta. The seventh Indonesia-Middle East Annual Gathering on Economy, or Image, kicked off in Bandung, West Java, on Monday (09/10).
The event forms part of Indonesia's economic diplomacy and larger efforts to increase cooperation between businesses from West Java and the Middle East.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release that 52 businesses from Middle Eastern countries are attending this year's event – the most thus far. These businesses are involved in a variety of sectors, including consumer goods, hospitality, construction, fashion and furniture.
"The highlight of Image will include a business forum, one-on-one business meetings with business leaders from West Java, as well as craft exhibitions and work visits to industrial centers," the ministry said.
Participants will also visit Kertajati International Airport in Majalengka district, West Java, to look at investment opportunities at Aerocity, an industrial development that forms part of the airport project, which is currently under construction.
"Image hopes to facilitate future mutually beneficial agreements between businesses from West Java and the Middle East," the ministry said.
West Java's location as a national center for manufacturing and the services sector is seen as a viable opportunity to foster cooperation with Middle Eastern businesses on trade, investment and tourism.
The West Java chapter of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) is meanwhile also scheduled to sign a memorandum of understanding with its Algerian counterpart on Wednesday.
