After Deadly Bus Crash in Malaysia, Bodies of Indonesian Migrant Workers Return Home
Jakarta. Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi said that the bodies of seven migrant workers in Malaysia were returned to Indonesia on Thursday (26/10), while 30 others suffered minor and major injuries.
A total of eight Sony factory workers -- including one Malaysian -- were killed Tuesday morning after two buses collided on the North South Expressway (NSE) near the Juru northbound toll plaza in the Malaysian state of Penang.
"Let me on behalf of the government of Indonesia convey our deeply condolence and regret to the victims' families," Retno said, adding that 39 out of 40 employees traveling on the buses were Indonesian.
"[...] We received information that seven Indonesians died, four others are critically injured and we pray that the critical situation can be passed soon," the minister said, citing information from Indonesia’s consulate in Penang.
"All remains will be brought back to their hometown, five to Medan (North Sumatra) and two to Yogyakarta today," the minister said. The victims were from Aceh, North Sumatra, Sragen (Central Java) and Madiun (East Java).
Local media reported that Malaysian police are currently investigating the cause of the crash.
