Jakarta. Indonesians can now apply for free e-visas to India, the Indian embassy in Jakarta announced earlier this week.

"E-Visa for India has been made gratis for Indonesian nationals with effect from June 18," the embassy said in a statement.

To obtain the visa, an online application form has to be filled out on the website. Applicants need to have passports valid for at least six months beyond the date of their arrival in India, and have to show return or onward journey tickets.

The option is available for visitors who are traveling for touristic, medical and business purposes.

The new visa policy reflects an improvement in Indonesia-India relations, following a comprehensive strategic partnership that was signed in May.
