Jakarta. Around 22,000 police officers and soldiers will be deployed on Friday, Dec. 2 in Central Jakarta to secure another anti-Ahok protest rally at the National Monument, National Police spokesman Gen. Insp. Boy Rafli Amar said on Monday (28/11).

The police expect around 150,000 protesters will take part in the protest to demand the arrest of Jakarta governor and blasphemy suspect Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama.

Boy said the police will chaperon protesters from outside Jakarta to the National Monument as they arrive in buses at the capital.

The protest has been dubbed the "Bela Islam" (Defend Islam) rally by the organizer, a group that calls itself the Guardians of the Indonesian Ulema Council's Fatwas (GNPF-MUI).

Police and rally organizers have agreed the protest will run between 8.00 a.m. and 1.00 p.m. on Friday and that protesters will refrain from spilling out on to the streets.

“We've agreed to make this rally 'super-peaceful.' We'll just have to make sure everyone holds on to their word," Boy told reporters.

According to Boy, clerics attending the protest will only be allowed to deliver sermons during the event, not political speeches.
