Jakarta Police to Investigate 'Bikini Party' Plans
[Updated at 10:39 p.m. on Thursday, April 23, 2015, to add organizers' apology and cancellation of party]
Jakarta. Police in the capital have said they will investigate the organizers of a high school graduation party which listed "bikinis" as the dress code, although presumably only for female attendees.
A video advertising the event titled "Splash After Class" had been circulating on YouTube, inviting high school students to attend the party at the Media and Tower hotel in Central Jakarta on Saturday.
The organizers mentioned bikinis and summer clothing as the dress code, but made a specific requirement that fun-seekers not bring along weapons, alcohol or drugs. The event was by "Divine Production" and was created to celebrate the end of the national exam period.
The video has since been removed from YouTube and on Thursday night the organizers said on their Twitter account that the event was canceled.
In a separate tweet, the organizers apologized to all who may have felt offended.
"Our cybercrime unit will trace the person who spread the video and we will question the organizers," Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Budi Widjanarko said on Thursday.
Budi said the police would not issue a permit for the event.
"We won't issue the permit. Why would you need to throw such event for the national exam celebration?" Budi said.
The Indonesian Commission for Child Protection (KPAI) said it had coordinated with the police to stop the party.
KPAI chairman, Asrorun Niam, said the national exam should not be celebrated in such a way.
"Parents must prevent this from happening, we have also coordinated with the police in this case," Asrorun said.
