Quick Count Puts Ahok-Djarot in Lead, Anies-Sandiaga Second: Cyrus Polling Agency
Jakarta. Cyrus polling agency’s quick count results showed incumbent pair Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama and Djarot Saiful Hidayat leading with 42.76 percent of the votes by 3.30 p.m. on Wednesday (15/02) in the Jakarta gubernatorial election.
Cyrus had Anies Baswedan-Sandiaga Uno trailing in second place with 39.42 percent of the total votes. Meanwhile, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono and Sylviana Murni reportedly collected only 17.81 percent of the votes collected by Cyrus.
Cyrus claimed to have collected 98.63 percent of the total votes from polling stations throughout the capital.
Another polling agency, Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting, had Anies-Sandiaga in the lead with 40.54 percent, and Ahok-Djarot trailing behind with 39.43 percent.
Meanwhile, quick count results from the Indo Barometer survey agency currently shows Ahok and Djarot leading the poll with 42.28 percent of the votes.
The agency had Anies and Sandiaga trailing in second place by 2.30 p.m. with 39.26 percent of the votes. Agus and Sylviana were in last spot with only 18.26 percent of the counted votes.
However, the Indo Barometer's quick count results are only based on 16.33 percent of the total data gathered by the survey agency.
Previously, Indonesia's General Elections Commission, known as the KPU, banned pollsters from publishing "quick count" results from the nationwide regional elections before 3 p.m. on Wednesday, to avoid voters getting unduly influenced by the incomplete results.
The KPU registers nearly 50 million voters in today's regional elections for governors, mayors and district heads in 101 regions throughout the country.
Around 7.1 million voters are registered in the country's capital city of Jakarta, where the race for governor is turning into one of the more divisive political battles in the country's democratic era.
The Jakarta election has inflamed religious tensions and has been colored by numerous intrigues involving senior politicians that include plot accusations, legal battles and accusations of conspiracy.
If none of the three candidates gets more than 50 percent of the votes cast in Wednesday's election, a run-off election between the two candidates with the most votes is expected to be held in May.
