Jakarta. Jakarta Deputy Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat said he was unaware that residents of the Luar Batang slum area in North Jakarta had chased city secretary Saefullah out of their compound on Monday (02/05).

"I haven't heard about it, but yesterday he told me he wanted to go to the area to speak with the mosque manager in Luar Batang," Djarot said on Tuesday.

The incident involving Saefullah is said to be related to the protest by Luar Batang residents at City Hall in Central Jakarta on Tuesday. There have been rumors that the city administration plans to relocate all the area's residents, which has upset many.

Djarot said not all Luar Batang residents oppose the idea, but that they may need to be given the full information about the administration's program before they could agree to the plan.

The deputy mayor said he planned a "clear the air" meeting between the Jakarta administration and Luar Batang residents, but refused to reveal when the meeting would take place.

"I'm not going to tell you when I'm going to meet with them," Djarot told reporters.
