Jakarta. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo and Vice President Jusuf Kalla inspected the site of the recent suicide bombing in Kampung Melayu, East Jakarta, on Thursday (25/05).

After spending 20 minutes at the crime scene, both leaders visited the victims who are treated at the nearby National Police Hospital in Kramat Jati.

Jokowi expressed his hope that the injured will recover soon.

"I hope they will recover within a day or two," Jokowi said at on Thursday.

The president has also called on all citizens to remain calm but alert.

According to Reuters, Jokowi said Indonesia needs to accelerate revisions to the counterterrorism laws to prevent future attacks.

"If we make a comparison with other countries, they already have regulations to allow authorities to prevent [attacks]," Jokowi said during a news conference.

The president has also ordered Chief Security Minister Wiranto to have the laws revised as soon as possible.

The long-standing plans to amend the 2003 Counterterrorism Law have been delayed at the House of Representatives due to concerns over human rights.

The new law would broaden the definition of terrorism and give police the right to detain suspects without trial.

It will also allow arrests over hate speech or for spreading extremist content, as well as of those who participate in paramilitary training or join proscribed groups.
