Jakarta. The Jakarta Police have arrested two South Korean nationals on child abduction charges, following a report filed by the South Korean Embassy, a police official said on Thursday (02/11).
Jakarta Police Criminal Investigations Unit head Hendy Kurniawan confirmed that Baik Jongwoon, 40, and Sea Songwoon, 38, were arrested in two separate locations — Jalan Sudirman in Central Jakarta and Soekarno-Hatta International Airport — on Wednesday night.
Police rescued 10-year-old South Korean child KH and two other kids who are the couple's own. Jongwoon and Songwoon are held at the Jakarta Police headquarters.
"The couple used their own children to persuade KH to go with them to Bali for holiday," Hendy said as quoted by BeritaSatu.com.
KH was brought to Bali on Oct. 24, and the couple started requesting money from the child's parents, who made several bank transfers amounting to 150 million won ($133 million).
"The motivations and other details will be investigated the South Korean police, we are coordinating with them," Hendy said, adding that the couple will be deported.
