Police Psychologists Test Officer Who Allegedly Killed Wife
Jakarta. Police have conducted a psychological test on an officer in Depok who reportedly killed his wife in a domestic dispute, an official said on Tuesday (29/03).
Ratnita Handriyani, 37, was found dead on Sunday evening at her home in Cimanggis, with wounds on her nose and bruises on her face.
Investigators from the Depok Police have since arrested Chief Brig. Triono, also 37, along with an alleged accomplice identified as Madun a.k.a. Mamad, a 35-year-old neighbor.
The officer allegedly suffocated his wife on Sunday with a pillow because he was fed up with her constant scolding, investigators said.
Psychologists on Tuesday conducted a test to determine whether Triono suffered from mental problems, said Sr. Comr. Musyafak of the Jakarta Police. "If he had indeed suffered from mental disturbances, he could be released," he said.
Musyafak, asked if the police should have been able to anticipate such incidents, replied: "We already subject our staff to psychological tests during recruitment."
"We also offer annual medical checkups, but due to budget constraints, not all officers can get one," said Musyafak, adding that Triono could face life in prison.
In late February, a West Kalimantan police officer, Brig. Petrus Bakus, killed and mutilated his two children at the Melawi Police dormitory complex. After a mental evaluation by the National Police, it was ruled the officers was suffering from a mental disorder.
