Jakarta. Art Moments Jakarta, a premium art fair that was postponed last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, has returned to take visitors and collectors to travel through time.

The exhibition's theme, "Yesterday since tomorrow is today, yesterday since tomorrow is us," illustrates a sense of time travel, according to Art Moments Jakarta chief operating officer Sendy Widjaja.

"Our artistic director Khai Hori first came up with the concept. If we look at human civilizations, art is closely tied to humankind, starting from rituals and worship to how we live. When we admire an artwork, it takes us to the past, present, and the future," Sendy told an online conference on Thursday.

"An artwork is like a time machine. It allows us to reflect on the past, realize how important our lives are now, and plan for the future," he said.

Visitors and collectors will embark on a "time machine" to be exposed to both traditional and contemporary arts. Visitors can also admire new mediums such as digital art, non-fungible tokens, textile, and sound art.

About 65 galleries from Indonesia and overseas are participating in the exhibition.

According to Sendy, Art Moments Jakarta is the first art fair in Indonesia to be held personally and online.

The offline event will take place in three renowned museums in the capital, namely Art:1 Museum Jakarta (May 20-22), D Gallerie (June 1-3), and CAN's Gallery (June 18-20). Whilst the online event will open its e-doors on June 1-30.

"We will use a customer-centric technology to ensure that consumers can easily navigate Art Moments Jakarta online. Each gallery will have a special room online where art enthusiasts can admire the eye-pleasing pieces," Sendy said.

The online art fair will be accessible via Art Moments Jakarta's official website.
