Jakarta. Hundreds of navy delegates from 43 countries attended a gala dinner of the 2017 International Maritime Security Symposium, or IMSS, at the Inaya Hotel in Nusa Dua, Bali, on Thursday (24/08).
The delegates, consisting of Western Pacific Naval Symposium and Indian Ocean Naval Symposium, were entertained with art performances such as Garuda Wisnu Kencana traditional dance and traditional songs from across the archipelago including South Sumatra, West Java, Yogyakarta, East Java and South Sulawesi.
Singer Lea Simanjuntak and Dwiki Dharmawan also played a set at the event.
Indonesian Navy Chief of Staff Adm. Ade Supandi said that this year is the third time the event has been held in Indonesia — in previous years the events were both held in Jakarta.
"As an effort to help improve tourism in Indonesia, IMSS will be held in different places in Indonesia and this year in Bali. Our motto is 'This is not only symposium but also exploring Indonesian culture and heritage,'" Ade said.
Besides the gala dinner, the guests are also scheduled to visit several places, such as Tari Barong studio, silver-craft shop, Krisna Art Market and the Bali Safari and Marine Park.
Tazbir, an assistant deputy for business development at the Ministry of Tourism, said the international event will boost Bali’s image as a beautiful and safe tourist destination.
