Jakarta. Bali hosted Ubud Writers and Readers Festival, or UWRF, on Oct. 25-29.

This year's event was different from its previous editions, as it also offered exhibition stands promoting culinary attractions, craft and tour packages.

Tickets were sold at Rp 600,000 ($45) for local tourists and $400 for foreigners.

Esthy Reko Astuti, tourism development deputy at the Ministry of Tourism, said the event was effective in attracting tourists, especially from literary communities.

"Events like this can be held in other regions to promote tourism and drive the economy through literature and culture," Esthy said.

According to Esthy, the event attracted 4,000 tourists and contributed to the local economy by boosting the revenues of hotels and restaurants.

Support from the ministry for UWRF 2017 was significant, as it promoted the event and launched a book of 15 Indonesian writers who participated in the festival.
