Bamboo Lights Illuminate Night Tourism in Magelang
Jakarta. Magelang in Central Java hosted Bamboo Lighting Festival at Ketep Pass Magelang on Oct. 20-22, to illuminate night tourism in the region.
Ketep Pass is located on the hillside of Mount Merapi, around 1,200 meters above sea level.
The three-day festival was considered a huge success as it managed to attract more than 5,000 tourists, who came from Magelang and other cities in the province — Semarang, Salatiga, Solo and Yogyakarta.
"Thank God, the number of visitors exceeded our initial target," Ketep Pass promotion and marketing head Edward Alfian said in a statement on Wednesday (25/10).
The festival featured concerts and traditional performances by tourist villages in Magelang.
When the lamps on the stage were turned off, the light came only from the bamboo torches surrounding it.
The festival is planned to become an annual event.
