Jakarta. Japan, China and India will be represented at this year's Borobudur International Festival, which will take place in Magelang, Central Java, on July 28-30.
Ambassadors of the three countries also attended the launch of the event in Jakarta recently.
Tourism Minister Arief Yahya, accompanied by Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo, said the festival has lately become the talk of the town.
"Congratulations to Central Java and our friends at GenPi Central Java. The Borobudur International Festival, with the hashtag #PesonaBIF, has become the runner-up of [Twitter's] top trending topics in Indonesia," Arief said.
Arief said the fourth edition of festival will attract more foreign tourists, with 60 percent of all foreigners visiting the archipelago to learn more about Indonesian culture.
Governor Ganjar meanwhile expressed hope that the festival will also prompt other regions to organize similar events.
"Recently, there was the Solo Batik Carnival, while our friends in Pekalongan and Batang want to create similar events. Hopefully, their events will boost the tourism sector and encourage public participation in the economy in their regions," he said.
Borobudur International Festival 2017 will showcase traditional art performance from Pekalongan, Tegal, Cilacap, Jepara, Wonogiri, Rembang and Magelang in Central Java, Lumajang in East Java, and Banten.
The event will also mark the opening of a museum and a historical exhibition, art performances and familiarization trips.
