Jakarta. Cameo Project, a group of Indonesian YouTubers who established their channel in 2012, participated in the YouTube Creators for Change Summit 2018 in London on Wednesday (24/01), presenting the progress in its #1Indonesia campaign.
Last year, Cameo Project collaborated with think thank Maarif Institute to encourage and train 2,000 high school students from 10 big cities to create videos for positive change. The topics included religious and ethnic tolerance, and digital literacy to fight hoaxes.
As of November 2017, the campaign resulted in 38 videos with over 1.3 million video views.
YouTube Creators for Change is a global initiative that supports creators promoting awareness, tolerance and empathy on their YouTube channels. The program was launched in September 2016.
Cameo Project was selected as the Indonesian ambassador for the program last year. Now the channel has 307,810 subscribers and more than 55 million video views.
The program organizers have also collaborated with social impact organizations and experts in Australia, Germany, Israel, Spain, Turkey, United Kingdom, France and Belgium.
Throughout 2017, YouTube Creators for Change educated more than 15,000 young people in 200 locations through workshops and school programs.
"Over the last year they've released dozens of thought-provoking videos that show the power of video to encourage empathy and understanding around the world. In the coming months, we’ll announce the global recipients of the production grants we’re making available through this renewed investment," YouTube public policy head Juniper Downs said.
