Canadian Soul Artist Daniel Caesar Steals Show at Java Jazz Festival
Jakarta. An hour before the show started, thousands of music fans were already lining up for Daniel Caesar’s performance on the BNI Stage during the 2018 Java Jazz Festival on Saturday (03/03).
Indonesian singer Yura Yunita opened the show with a rendition of the national anthem "Indonesia Raya" (Glorious Indonesia) while waiting for the hall to fill up.
When he finally got to the stage at 8.45 p.m., the Canadian soul singer and songwriter went straight for the jugular with hit songs "West" and "Neuroses," sending the crowd into a frenzy.
After "We Find Love," the 23-year old greeted his Jakarta fans and was responded with thunderous claps that reverberated in the cavernous JIEXPO hall.
"Good evening Indonesia. It’s so good to be here. I am overwhelmed with joy and love tonight. Let’s have fun tonight and sing together with me," Caesar said.
He then continued with the romantic and heartbreaking "Blessed," accompanied by a piano.
Caesar asked the crowd to sing along with him on "Get You," a request that was greeted with screams of excitement.
The bright lights of the stage were dimmed for a moment, replaced with romantic blue and red lights.
"One more time, one more time, Jakarta. Let’s sing with me," Caesar said at the end of Get You.
After the singalong, Caesar bade the audience farewell and did not respond to their clamoring chants for an encore. Like every good artist, he preferred to quit while he was ahead.
