Charlize Theron, David Fincher Team Up in Netflix Crime Series
Jakarta. Hollywood director David Fincher and Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron are joining forces for a new Netflix original series, "Mindhunter," according to a report by Deadline.
Fincher and Theron will act as executive producers for the crime drama, which is adapted from a book titled "Mind Hunter: Inside The FBI's Elite Serial Crime Unit."
Co-written by former special agent John Douglas, the book gives an inside look at his high-profile cases, in which he hunted some of the most infamous serial killers and rapists in the United States — from a child murderer in Atlanta to a man who hunted prostitutes in Alaska. Douglas is also said to be the inspiration for several book and television characters, such as Will Graham in "Hannibal."
The series is expected to be directed by Fincher, who has previously focused his lens on serial killers in movies like "Se7en" and "Zodiac." British screenwriter Joe Penhall is rumored to be writing the screenplay.
The "Mindhunter" project will be Fincher's second drama series for the digital streaming company. Previously, he developed the critically acclaimed political drama "House of Cards" — which will enter its fourth season next year — with its main star, Kevin Spacey.
Theron, meanwhile, is executive-producing the series through the banner of Denver and Delilah, her own production company.
Netflix has yet to announce the release date for "Mindhunter."
