Child Commission Calls for Withdrawal of "Bikini" Snack
Jakarta. The Indonesian Child Protection Commission, or KPAI, on Thursday (04/08) called for the withdrawal of "Bikini" noodle snacks from online circulation.
"Bikini," which stands for "bihun kekinian" (trendy rice noodles), caused an uproar on social media for its packaging depicting a bikini and "squeeze me" instructions on its lower section.
"Regardless of the producer's intention, it creates an improper situation for children and triggers pornographic thoughts," KPAI commissioner Maria Ulfah Anshor said in Jakarta.
Maria urged the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) to withdraw "Bikini" from circulation as soon as possible, arguing that the agency's role should not be limited to checking the ingredients of food products.
"There is no relation between rice noodles and bikini. The producers could have offered something more relevant rather than sex-related content on its packaging," she said.
As reported by Antara news agency, Tulus Abadi, chairman of the Indonesian Consumers Foundation, said that "Bikini" snack has not been registered yet with the BPOM, despite the halal stamp on its packing. The foundation requests immediate removal of "Bikini" from the market.
